The recently conducted 2019 UPSC Economic Service Exam had some interesting error correction questions which are very useful for any other competitive exam like SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, SSC MTS, Bank and Kerala PSC exams. Almost all these error correction questions are based on the inevitable grammatical rules of English which any student of competitive exam has to study.
If your score is between 8-10, then your grammar is pretty good. Any score below 8 for these questions signals a lack of practice in error correction.
Now try these questions.
Correct the following sentences without changing their meaning. Do not make unnecessary changes in the original sentence:
- His daughter-in-law is a M.A. in English.
- Rina has been deprived from her share in her father’s property.
- All the books in the old library has perished.
- The aggrieved man said that he will not forgive the wrong –doer.
- Despite of the doctor’s advice, he smoked.
- The principal could not attend the meeting in account of illness.
- In the court – room the advocate referred an old case.
- The old man was so weak to climb the stairs.
- My father has stopped living in the official quarter.
- They cannot issue the ticket unless you do not pay the fare.
