origin-This phrase has its origin in the world of theatre (an area where plays and other dramatic performances are given ). Performers had a superstition that saying ‘good luck’ would actually bring them bad luck, so ‘break a leg’ was used instead.
Explanation-Tina and Tess were having their final year exams. Both of them wished each other ‘break a leg! ‘ During the vacation after exams, Tess was busy preparing for a singing audition and Tina was penning poems. On the day of the audition, Tina shouted, ‘Break a leg! ‘ as Tess entered the stage. When the vacation was over, Tina showed the collection of poems written by her to Tess. Tess said, ‘I wish you good luck on the completion of your collection. You can publish the same. ‘Break a leg!’
